State Bar of Arizona Offers Free Webinar on Lawyers and Dementia

 Every 66 seconds, someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s disease — and it stands to reason that among those are actively practicing attorneys. On February 15, the State Bar of Arizona will hold a seminar on the topic of dementia (whether from Alzheimer’s or another cause) and how it affects lawyers and judges. Disciplinary Board Proposes Anti-discrimination Rule: Comments Due 2/3/17

In a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking published December 3, 2016, at 46 Pa.B. 7519, the Disciplinary Board has proposed an amendment to Rule 8.4 of the Rules of Professional Conduct (Misconduct), adding a new subsection (g), which would make it professional misconduct and grounds for discipline for a lawyer to violate a federal, state or local antidiscrimination statute or ordinance. The Board has set a comment period running through February 3, 2017.

New Custody Modification Scheduling Order

The revised form can be found under the Custody Forms and Protocol on the Westmoreland County Website. The scheduling order has been changed to include that if a Guardian Ad Litem has previously been appointed, the filer must send a copy of both the Petition for Modification and the scheduling order to the Guardian Ad Litem. 

PA Supreme Court institutes new continuing education requirements for judges and justices

HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has adopted continuing judicial education requirements for judges serving the Supreme, Commonwealth and Superior courts, as well as the Courts of Common Pleas, the Philadelphia Municipal Court and certified senior judges of each.

“Continuing judicial education in Pennsylvania has been on-going and is rich in its history and tradition,” said Chief Justice of Pennsylvania Thomas G. Saylor. “However, we had no formalized process to track attendance by judges covered under this order, or to ensure that we are meeting their diverse educational needs.

HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has adopted a change to its Rules of Professional Conduct governing attorneys to address questions of whether it is ethically permissible to provide legal advice and assistance to clients engaged in the medical marijuana industry.
