Westmoreland Bar Foundation ScholarshipsThe Westmoreland Bar Foundation awards three law school scholarships to Westmoreland County residents for the Fall school year. Applications can be acquired
by contacting the financial aid office of Pennsylvania law
schools, calling the office of the Westmoreland Bar
Association at 724.834.6730, or by clicking the link below. The deadline for submission is
on or before June 18, 2007. The Wayne R. Donahue Memorial ScholarshipThe Wayne R. Donahue Memorial Scholarship, named for Westmoreland Bar Association member Wayne Donahue, will be given to a county resident enrolled in a Pennsylvania law school. This scholarship will be in an amount up to $2,250. Mr. Donahue, a sole practioner from New Kensington, was a lifelong resident of Western Pennsylvania and an alumnus of Duquesne University and Duquesne University School of Law. The Donald Laird Hankey Memorial ScholarshipThe Donald Laird Hankey Memorial Scholarship, named for Westmoreland Bar Association member Donald Hankey, will be given to a county resident enrolled in any law school. Attorney Hankey, a sole practitioner from New Kensington was a 65-year member of the local bar, a lifelong resident of Westmoreland County and an alumnus of Westminister College and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. This scholarship will be in an amount up to $2,500. The Honorable David H. Weiss Memorial ScholarshipThe Honorable David H. Weiss Memorial Scholarship is named for the former President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Westmoreland County. This scholarship, in the amount of up to $350, is awarded to a Westmoreland County resident enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. A resident of Monessen and an alumnus of The University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Judge Weiss served as a state legislator for 14 years, was an assistant District Attorney and served as the first Family Court Judge of the Westmoreland County Court of Common Pleas.
